Status: Full-Time
General Working Hours: The Depot is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with seasonal adjustments as needed. This full-time position targets 40-45 hours per week, with the flexibility to create a schedule that balances public hours, administrative work, and inventory management.
Position Overview: The Depot Manager serves as the friendly face and operational lead for the newly established visitors center, the heart of Cartersville Museum City. This role is essential in ensuring visitors experience the best of Cartersville and Bartow County, acting as both a hospitality ambassador and retail curator through the By Bartow artisan shop. The Depot Manager oversees daily operations, manages volunteers and part-time staff, and helps connect guests to the museums, local businesses, and attractions that make Cartersville a world-class destination.

Core Responsibilities
Visitor Experience & Hospitality
- Create a welcoming atmosphere for all visitors, ensuring they leave with helpful information, recommendations, and a positive impression of Cartersville Museum City.
- Serve as an ambassador for Cartersville’s museums, local events, downtown businesses, and county-wide attractions.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of current events, seasonal offerings, and tourism initiatives to share with visitors.
Operational Management
- Hire, train, schedule, and supervise visitor center volunteers and part-time staff to ensure friendly, knowledgeable coverage during operating hours.
- Maintain the appearance, cleanliness, and functionality of the visitors center and By Bartow shop.
- Oversee brochure inventory, ensuring all tourism materials are current, well-stocked, and attractively displayed.
- Track visitor inquiries, foot traffic, and trends to support destination marketing efforts.
Retail & Inventory Management
- Manage daily operations of the By Bartow artisan retail shop, including product display, artisan outreach, inventory tracking, and point-of-sale transactions.
- Foster relationships with local artisans to ensure a rotating, high-quality selection of locally-made goods.
- Balance daily sales and maintain accurate financial records, working closely with leadership and the accounting team to reconcile reports.
Community Engagement & Events
- Represent Cartersville Museum City at community events, festivals, and industry events, occasionally staffing informational booths.
- Assist with logistics and on-site support for occasional events hosted at The Depot.
- Act as a liaison between Cartersville Museum City and downtown businesses, ensuring the visitors center is a valuable resource for both locals and visitors.
Other Duties
- Track visitor data, sales, and volunteer hours; prepare summary reports.
- Respond promptly to visitor inquiries via phone, email, and social media as needed.
- Be available to cover shifts on weekends or evenings when necessary.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills
- 2+ years of experience in customer service, retail management, hospitality, or tourism-related roles.
- Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills — you genuinely enjoy helping people.
- Retail experience, including familiarity with point-of-sale systems and inventory management.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and willingness to learn other software.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Knowledge of Cartersville, Bartow County, and surrounding areas is a plus, but curiosity and a passion for learning can make up for it!
- Ability to stand, walk, and lift objects up to 25 lbs.
