The San Diego Tourism Authority is a private, non-profit, mutual benefit corporation composed of approximately 1,000 member organizations, businesses, local governments, and individuals seeking a better community through the visitor industry. San Diego Tourism Authority members include tourism-related entities in such categories as lodging, dining, arts, attractions, shopping, and transportation, among others, as well as other companies indirectly involved in tourism.

As a sales and marketing organization, the main objective of the San Diego Tourism Authority is to promote and market the San Diego region as a preferred vacation and meeting destination. The San Diego Tourism Authority also represents and supports the interests of the visitor industry as a whole. The majority of funding received by the San Diego Tourism Authority is derived from San Diego Tourism Marketing District Assessment Funds. The San Diego Tourism Authority also receives financial support from member dues and promotional assistance from the membership through donated in-kind services.

 

Position Summary

The Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Manager will be a key contributor in implementing SDTA’s diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) strategy and community engagement efforts. This role will support the execution of DEI programs and initiatives, work closely with the VP of People, Culture & Purpose (VP), and collaborate with various team members and external partners. In addition, this role will manage the evaluation and reporting of the annual DEI initiatives, ensuring progress is amplified throughout the organization and external channels.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Program Management:

  • Assist in the planning, implementation, and management of DEI programs and initiatives.
  • Manage program logistics for the Tourism Accelerator Program, including recruitment, scheduling, workshop content and materials, communications, participant and alumni engagement, and annual program event.
  • Track program progress and measure impact; identify opportunities for program improvement and make recommendations.

Training & Development:

  • Assist in the development and delivery of DEI training programs.
  • Conduct workshops, seminars, and presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate training logistics and track participant attendance.

Content Development:

  • Support the creation of engaging content for DEI initiatives and regularly monitor to ensure that content is relevant, accurate, and aligned with SDTA’s brand, strategy, and messaging.
  • Administer organizational DEI resources and collaborate with marketing and sales divisions to facilitate innovation, knowledge-sharing, and response to client inquiries.
  • Contribute to the development of training materials and resources.

Data Analysis & Reporting:

  • Collect and analyze DEI data to track progress and identify trends.
  • Support the VP to prepare reports and presentations on DEI metrics for various audiences.
  • Contribute to the development of data-driven insights and recommendations.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Administer employee resource group (DEI Committee) and collaborate with VP to grow and evolve programming that nurtures a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace culture.
  • Provide support and guidance to other departments on DEI matters.
  • Represent SDTA at community events, forums, and conferences, advocating for initiatives that promote diversity, inclusion, and tourism-related opportunities.

Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

 

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), with a proven track record of executing successful programs and initiatives.
  • A strong understanding of DEI best practices and a passion for creating an inclusive workplace and community environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication along with demonstrated presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical and project management skills, with the ability to drive initiatives from concept to completion.
  • Proven ability to influence and engage with individuals from diverse racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, cultural backgrounds and with varying abilities.
  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office, CRM platforms (e.g. Simpleview, Salesforce), and project management tools (e.g. Asana, Basecamp).
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, education, or a related field is preferred, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience in corporate social responsibility, fundraising/philanthropy, or tourism is a plus.
  • Ability to work autonomously and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work a weekend or evening and travel on occasion.
  • Must live in San Diego County.

Annualized salary range is $82,000 – 92,000 DOE.
