DIRECTOR OF FINANCE:

The objective of all departments is to position Visit Greater Palm Springs (Visit GPS) as the official tourism agency for the Greater Palm Springs area.

Under the direction of the Vice President of Finance and Administration, the Director of Finance is responsible for overseeing all accounting operations for the organization and the Tourism Foundation, including supervising all accounting staff. Accounting and financial reporting are to be in maintained in compliance with VGPS financial policies, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Director of Finance responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Supervise and mentor the accounting team
  • Oversee billing and collections
  • Oversee assessment filings, receipts, delinquencies, and conduct periodic audits
  • Deposit checks and record electronic payments
  • Annually reconcile receipts from cities to city revenue reports
  • Manage electronic payments
  • Continuously monitor cash flow
  • Oversee pension fund accounting
  • Oversee investment accounting
  • Oversee petty cash, inventory and fixed asset accounting
  • Oversee payroll processing and accounting, including related filings
  • Oversee necessary account reconciliations & analysis to ensure accounting integrity
  • Maintain fund and expense allocation systems, including job costing
  • Perform annual Federal filings for 1099s and Form 990
  • Perform California filings for Special Districts Report, Form 199, Form CT-1, and Form RRF-1
  • Provide documentation, analysis & explanations required by auditors
  • Identify and implement changes necessary to comply with new accounting standards
  • Maintain documentation of accounting policies and procedures
  • Safeguard organization’s funds and other assets by maintaining proper internal controls

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Demonstrated expert knowledge in both GAAP and GASB
  • 3 Years public sector accounting
  • 5 Years experience managing an accounting department
